Hill Air Force Base • In an annual competition once dominated by Utah Section PGA pros, the state's top amateurs won the Governor's Cup matches 20-12 on Thursday at Hubbard Golf Course.

The Utah Golf Association team has won three of the last four matches. The pros went 13-0-2 in the first 15 Governor's Cups, beginning in 1984, but the event has been fairly even in this century.

In the latest competition, the PGA team was missing some top players, including Chris Moody and Zach Johnson. They may not have made enough difference, however. The UGA team dominated the senior portion with strong performances from Brett Sampson, Mike Jorgensen, Craig Wilson and Kirk Siddens. Utah State golfer Seokwon Jeon and Utah's Brandon Kida also made big contributions as the amateurs went 11-5 in individual matches. The UGA won the morning foursomes competition 5-3 and the afternoon four-ball matche were tied 4-4.

Tracy Zobell of Gladstan Golf Course in Payson was the PGA's top player, winning every possible point.
