Logan • Koby McEwen, a prized 6-foot-4 guard from Wasatch Academy, announced Monday he will attend Utah State.
McEwen is a four-star recruit, according to Rivals.com, which ranks him as the 104th-best prospect in the country among 2016 recruits.
McEwen burst onto the national recruiting scene in August at the Adidas Nation event in Long Beach, Calif. Against some of the top players from around the world, he averaged 21 points, five rebounds, three steals and 2.8 assists.
"Very tough, very hard-nosed," said Wasatch Academy coach Curtis Condie. "He's a guard who can score and distribute the basketball. He's worked on his outside game, too."
Off the court, Condie said, McEwen will "fit in great at Utah State. He's a very disciplined and determined young man. … He's one of the most focused young men I've met."
McEwen announced his decision on Twitter: "I've decided to commit to Utah State university. Thank you coaches for recruiting me. Thank you God for this opportunity!"
McEwen, a Canadian, committed to Utah State after visiting the campus last weekend.
According to ESPN, he had offers on the table from Baylor and Ole Miss. He recently visited Wake Forest. He has canceled planned visits to Georgia Tech and Texas Tech.
Regarding his decision to attend Utah State, McEwen told HoopSeen.com, "It's a winning program where I can make an impact from day one. Plus, it's in the Mountain West Conference that plays my style. ... I like the coaching staff and the facilities and everything felt good."
