On the United Way of Salt Lake's Day of Caring Thursday, more than 4,500 volunteers from 120 local companies worked on 110 service projects. Together, the UWSL estimated, they completed nearly 18,000 hours of volunteer service.

At South Kearns Elementary School in Kearns, about 80 volunteers from Questar painted murals inside the school and installed garden beds. The garden will be used to teach students in the afterschool program about healthy eating.
