The driver of a semi-trailer rig may owe his life to a concerned motorist, who got his attention in time for him to make a fiery exit onto the shoulder of Interstate 15.

The Utah Highway Patrol says the big rig's driver was southbound on I-15 near Point of the Mountain, about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, when he noticed a loss of air pressure on his brakes.

Moments later, the passing motorist waved and pointed, indicating the semi's trailer was on fire. The semi driver immediately pulled over and was able to detach his tractor from the trailer as flames engulfed his load of furniture.

By the time firefighters could douse the flames, the trailer and its contents were a total loss.

The driver escaped injury, and traffic along the stretch was restricted to one lane for several hours until the wreckage was cleared.
