A man arrested on suspicion of shooting a relative during an argument last week in Millcreek also is accused of stealing 20 fur coats, valued at almost $140,000.

The man was arrested in a Murray hotel with his wife on Sunday, one week after police went to Millcreek to investigate reports of gunfire at a mansion near 1775 E. Millbrook Drive (3460 South).

Investigators found no one inside but later learned that a man had been shot by a relative, said Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson. After the shooting, the victim, the suspect and the suspect's wife left the house, Richardson said. Investigators later found the victim in Davis County, Richardson said; he had been shot in the foot.

The suspect, a 43-year-old man, was found early Sunday at a hotel in Midvale, near 400 West and 7200 South. His wife was arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive, Richardson said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated burglary and other charges in connection with the Millcreek incident. He also had been charged in a burglary Oct. 22 at the Alaskan Fur Gallery in Park City. Security video showed a man exit a van and smash the glass door at the business; he then can be seen taking an armful of coats and handing them to a woman in the van, police wrote.

The store owner found 20 fur coats, and one pair of boots were missing, with a total retail value of $139,900, police wrote.

The man was charged with second-degree felony theft, third-degree felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal mischief in the Park City case.

The same man also was wanted in connection with a criminal case in Draper, where he was suspected of obtaining multiple identifying documents of another person, theft by receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a financial card.
