Colorado Springs, Colo. • Another road game, another difficult travel itinerary for Utah State.
Prior to Saturday's noon kickoff at Air Force, Aggie players, coaches and support staff didn't arrive in Colorado Springs until 9:30 p.m. on Friday after the team's charter took off from Logan over an hour late.
It has been a recurring scenario this season, although Utah State's earliest start of the season put the travel situation into sharper focus.
Earlier in the week, Aggie coach Matt Wells downplayed the suggestion that his team might have been at a competitive disadvantage a couple of times because of it.
"We're not going to make any excuses because of travel, early kickoff [or] late kickoff," he said. "That's not something we'll ever do. It will never be an excuse. I'd like to leave a little earlier … but it is what it is. I just want to take off on time and do what we're supposed to."
Keeton returns to high point of career
On Utah State's last visit to Falcon Stadium, Chuckie Keeton produced one of the best games by an Aggie quarterback ever. On Sept. 7, 2013, Keeton competed 32 of 40 passes for 360 yards and a school-record five touchdowns during a 52-20 win over the Falcons. He also ran eight times for 77 yards in less than three quarters.
After an injury-plagued career, including a seven-week absence this season because of a sprained knee, Keeton is Kent Myers' backup.
"Chuckie gives and he doesn't ask for anything in return," Wells said. "He's a very selfless young man that gives to the community. He gives to his teammates and he gives to others in need. He's just got a great deal of humility about him and it's refreshing. I have a lot of respect for him. He was raised the right way by two great parents. He's been nothing but a big-time success at Utah State in every area."
Briefly
In the first quarter, Utah State and Air Force combined for 28 points and 335 yards of offense. … Myers completed 10 of his first 12 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns. … Attendance on Senior Day was 20,083. … Air Force officials announced plans to install a 2,500-square foot video screen at Falcon Stadium in time for the 2016 season.
