A section of Interstate 80 was closed down early Wednesday morning after a semi-trailer rig went out of control and toppled.

The westbound semi, which was hauling a tanker full of whey protein concentrate, crashed at 2:07 a.m. near mile marker 174 in Summit County's Echo Canyon.

The driver was taken by ambulance to the Park City Medical Center with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The semi and its tanker trailer overturned in the median and adjacent lanes. The Utah Highway Patrol closed down the highway for about two hours, reopening one lane in each direction at 5 a.m.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said.

Other than a small amount of fuel that leaked from the semi's tanks, there were no reports of the tanker itself being compromised.
