People got a look Monday at artist Laura Sharp Wilson's modern terrazzo floor she designed for the Grand Lobby of the new Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City. The city commissioned two public art projects for the theater, one of which is the floor.

Sharp Wilson, a contractor who specializes in terrazzo, has been installing the floor over the past two weeks. The floor installation titled "Thread, Trail, Rope and Yarn" was inspired by the landscape of Utah and the history of the Salt Lake Valley.

"Dusty muted tones of purple, green, khaki and gray — that I have seen while living and traveling in Utah — inspired my color palette," Sharp Wilson said in a statement. "These color choices sit harmoniously within the light, white theme of the theater's Winter Garden Lobby, its wood veneer, neutral fabric panels and subtle orange accent band. Utah's landscape is one of the grandest in the world, replicating that color allows it to have a presence in the building."
