A nearly 2-year-old boy died Friday evening after an apparent drowning in Salt Lake County.

The drowning occurred near 2800 N. Rose Park Lane, according to the Unified Police Department. At the time, he was playing outside with other children, according to a tweet from the department.

At about 6:45 p.m., one of the children noticed that the boy was missing, said Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen. After the child told an adult, the boy was found in a pond, Hansen said.

CPR was performed on the boy before he was flown to Primary Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police had not yet released the boy's name.
