We should support the proposed Bears Ears National Monument for two reasons:

1) If it is not protected, it will be destroyed for greed and lost to future generations. We've been down that road before with bloated politicians stuffing their Jekyll and Hyde pockets.

And 2) it is time to dedicate a unique monument to Native Americans. As one of my Navajo students eloquently put it, "Native Americans came here over 15,000 years ago. We received citizenship 92 years ago.''

Let's give them more than citizenship.
