Utah football announced a suspension to its starting slot receiver on the first day of fall camp.

Cory Butler-Byrd, who played corner last year but switched fully to offense in spring, was suspended for what Kyle Whittingham called "personal issues" in a school news release.

Butler-Byrd will remain on scholarship but not participate in team activities. It was not immediately clear what led to his suspension.

Butler-Byrd joined the team in 2015 out of junior college, starting the season as a cornerback. His one catch was a 54-yard touchdown pass. He also was a starter on the kick return team, where he returned one touchdown last year.

The senior's suspension opens the door for junior Kyle Fulks to see more time at slot receiver.
