A 52-year-old registered nurse was booked into jail Thursday for allegedly sexually abusing three female patients at Salt Lake area hospitals.
Adam Tae Kyun Lim, of Herriman, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with two first-degree felony counts of object rape and one count of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse for crimes that allegedly occurred in 2009, 2014 and 2015.
In January 2009, Kim touched the genitals of a female patient who was at St. Mark's Hospital in Millcreek for treatment of Crohn's disease, charges state. The patient told investigators that Kim appeared to be checking something, but that her catheter, colostomy bag and drains were not in her vaginal area.
After Kim left the room, the patient immediately told her mother, who had been sleeping in the hospital room, about the episode, charges state.
In February 2014, Kim allegedly sexually abused a patient who was at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray for amputation of her lower right leg. Kim told the patient he needed to check her catheter, but touched her genitals instead, charges state. When the patient pushed his hands away and told him to stop, he repeated that he was just checking the catheter, charges state.
In December 2015, at Intermountain Medical Center, Kim came into a patient's room late one night saying he needed to check her EKG leads. The patient later told investigators that she was "a little foggy" from her pain medication, but was aware of her surroundings and events and that Kim touched her breasts for one to two minutes, charges state.
The patient said she felt violated and was crying after Kim left her room, and she was "praying that he would not return because she was scared," charges state.
But Kim returned at around midnight and offered her a glass of champagne, which she tasted.
When Kim left the room, the patient poured the rest of the alcohol into the sink. Shortly afterward, Kim came back, knelt down by her bed, put his hand under her chin and stared at her for several minutes, charges state.
The patient said she became "very uncomfortable and finally looked away, which prompted the defendant to leave the room," charges state.
Kim is being held at the Salt Lake County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. An initial court appearance is set for Tuesday.
