One man is dead after a head-on collision of a semi-trailer rig and a pickup truck late Tuesday morning, which closed Spanish Fork Canyon for about five hours.
Court Anderson, 77, of American Fork, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release. The collision occurred on U.S. Highway 6, about 2 miles into the canyon, about 10:15 a.m., Sgt. Todd Royce said.
The pickup truck, driven by Anderson, was headed east on the highway and crossed the double yellow line, striking the semi truck head-on, the UHP release said.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene, and the semi driver was uninjured, the release said.
Highway 6 was fully or partially closed until 3:30 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation. A small fire erupted from the semi, but it was quickly extinguished, Royce said.
Police are investigating why the pickup crossed over into oncoming traffic.
