A teenager is dead after being hit by a car in Herriman late Tuesday afternoon.

The 13-year-old boy was walking north on Main Street about 3:30 p.m., said Unified police Detective Ken Hansen. A car struck him as he crossed the intersection of 5100 West.

The boy suffered "significant head injuries" and died at the scene, Hansen said.

Police are not releasing the name of the boy, a student at Copper Mountain Middle School, because he was a juvenile.
