A SWAT team forced entry to a Murray home early Wednesday morning, ending a prolonged standoff with the arrest of a suspect in two drive-by shootings.

Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said police had begun looking for 18-year-old Micah Everett Mackley late Tuesday, after he allegedly first fired a shotgun into a house in Millcreek, at 1008 E. Millcreek Way (3500 South), and then opened fire on another residence in Murray (1650 E. 4257 South).

No injuries were reported in those shootings, though buckshot struck the Millcreek home in several places, Lohrke said.

Witnesses allegedly connected Mackley to the shootings, and provided a vehicle description. That car was then spotted pulling into the driveway of the home at 832 E. 4315 South in Murray about 9 p.m.

UPD officers set up a containment area and then ordered the residents to come out of the house. Mackley's father and grandmother complied, confirming the teen was still inside.

Lohrke said the suspect refused to answer the telephone and ignored numerous demands by bullhorn to surrender.

"After exhausting all avenues to get the suspect to exit the house, SWAT was paged out and took over [the] operation," Lohrke said. "After several hours the suspect was located by SWAT in a downstairs room of the residence ... taken into custody and turned over to Violent Crimes detectives."

There were no reports of shots being fired during the standoff.

Mackley was booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where he was being held without bail Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree felony counts of felony discharge of a firearm and threats of violence.

According to a probable cause statement, Mackley had fired three shotgun blasts at his first alleged shooting scene because it was the home of a love rival. Also, detectives learned the shootings apparently culminated an ongoing exchange of texts in which threats were made between the parties.
