The Legislature and other political leaders are making serious attempts to address homelessness, with a first step to site two new smaller shelters ó 250 beds each ó in Salt Lake City to take pressure off The Road Home shelter on Rio Grande Street.

The area around The Road Home shelter near the intersection of Rio Grande Street and 200 South, Tuesday December 22, 2015. The U.S. Conference of Mayors has released its annual Hunger and Homeless Survey. The report surveyed 22 cities and found that over all, homelessness increased 5.2 percent. Sixty-Six percent of the cities reported an increase in the need for food assistance.
