Utah's 17th LDS temple — this one in Cedar City — will open its doors to faithful Mormons in December.

But, first, anyone wishing to tour the edifice will get a chance to do so. A free open house is planned from Oct. 27 through Nov. 18, the Salt Lake City-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Thursday.

The temple, located at 300 S. Cove Drive, just off Interstate 15, then will be dedicated Dec. 10. Afterward, only devout Latter-day Saints will be allowed to enter. Mormons see their temples as houses of God, places they can take part in their faith's highest rites, including eternal marriage.
