A look at three standout performers and three key numbers from Friday's Day 1 of the Class 3A state wrestling meet at Utah Valley University.

Logan Gustafson

You might as well call the Stansbury junior the Falcon killer. He came out on fire with a decisive 11-1 decision against Canyon View Falcon Brayden Cavalieri in the first round. He followed that with a tech fall over Cavalieri's teammate Kasey Robinson in 4:52 in the quarterfinals.

Joe Richardson

The Juan Diego wrestler had to work for his pin in the first round against Cedar City's Caleb Weaver. On multiple occasions, it appeared Richardson was headed for a quick victory until Weaver managed to squirm out of his hold. Finally, at the 3 minute, 29 second mark, he earned the fall at 145. Richardson's luck ran out in the quarterfinals when he lost to North Sanpete's Gatlin Peterson.

Nathan Richards

With an overall record of 35-6 for Union, Richards was matched evenly against Tyson Roundy, 23-8, of Cedar City. That appeared to be the case until late in the second round when Richards found the opening he was searching for and pinned Roundy at the 5:04 mark. Richards escaped into the semifinals with a 6-4 tiebreaker win over Hurricane's Caden Armstrong in the quarters.

28

Zackery Bingham of Bear River, the No. 1 seed in the 3A north 106 division, wasted no time in the first round. He pinned Richfield's Ruger Hunt in 28 seconds. He needed 1:26 to pin his quarterfinal opponent, teammate Kamren Rees.

18

That's the point difference Logan senior Tyler King enjoyed in his two victories at 170. He defeated Stansbury's Tyler Evans 10-2 in the opening round before taking down Richfield's Dillon Sorenson 14-4 in the quarterfinals.

371

The number of seconds — yes, that's 6 minutes, 11 seconds — Bear River senior Joshua Madsen needed to record a pair of pins on his way to the 285 semifinals. He pinned Dixie's Brogan Boyle in 1:23 then pinned Stansbury's Josh Witkowski in 4:48 in the quarterfinals. Madsen is the defending state champ in the weight class.
