Utah State announced the hiring on Monday night.

Tommerdahl spent the past four seasons on the California coaching staff as assistant head coach and special teams coordinator. He also coached tight ends, fullbacks and receivers at Cal.

Tommerdahl's previous coaching stops include stints at Wyoming (1984-1994), Minesota (1995-96), New Mexico (1997), TCU (1998-2000), Alabama (2001-02), Louisiana Texas A&M (2003-07), Louisiana Monroe (2008), Louisiana Tech (2009-12) and Cal (2013-2016).

He has been on the coaching staff of 14 teams that went to bowl games.

Tommerdahl joins offensive coordinator David Yost as new additions to the coaching staff this offseason under head coach Matt Wells.
