Utah State freshman point guard Eliza West will be limited during the Mountain West Conference Tournament this coming week in Las Vegas.

West, a 5-foot-5 freshman from Victoria, Australia, has suffered a hand injury that has kept her out of practice the past few days. Aggies head coach Jerry Finkbeiner said West had done some individual work late this week, and West is expected to practice on Sunday. The Aggies open Mountain West Tournament play Monday night against Air Force in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

West has started all 29 games and averaged 8.0 points and 4.8 assists per game in her first collegiate season.

"Her minutes will be abbreviated, we just don't know to what extent," Finkbeiner said. "She's probably the toughest kid we have pound-to-pound. We don't question if she's going to play or not, it's just how much. She's one of our leaders even though she's just a freshman. … She was the MVP of the national championship rugby game last summer in Australia so she's as tough as they come."

Olivia West, who is also from Australia but not related to Eliza, figures to garner more playing time in the wake of Eliza West's injury.
