Magic, greed and heroism, music and motion, and hundreds of dazzling costumes. These are just some of the elements of "Elfwyn's Saga," a new work to be performed by Children's Dance Theatre on Friday and Saturday, March 24 and 25, at the Capitol Theatre in Salt Lake City.

Inspired by Viking lore, "Elfwyn's Saga" brings to life a story by David Wisiniewski set in an early settlement of Iceland. When a rival Viking clan strikes, Elfwyn, who was born blind, must use her gift of clear perception, with the help of the mysterious Hidden Folk, to fight for her community.

The teachers and students of CDT created the choreography, with an original score by Tristan Moore. Costume designers Wendy Turner, Cynthia Turner and Nancy Cook have created whimsical, detailed pieces for the CDT students.

Children's Dance Theatre, established by Virginia Tanner in 1949 and under the direction of Mary Ann Lee since 1979, includes about 280 dancers ages 8 to 18.
