There's going to be a new sheriff in Emery County.

Sheriff Lamar Guymon lost his 10th bid for sheriff Tuesday to newcomer Greg Funk, who garnered 67 percent of the vote. Guymon has been Emery County's sheriff for 36 years.

"I've enjoyed every day of it," Guymon said late Tuesday.

The 63-year-old didn't guess as to why he lost after almost four decades except to say, "It's a Republican year. I'm a Democrat."

Guymon, who sounded upbeat despite the loss, said he hasn't contemplated the next step of his life.

"I've never thought about retiring," he said.

Guymon said what he'll miss most about being sheriff is the people that he has worked with over his 40-year career.

"They're all good people," he said. "They do their jobs well."

Guymon thanked Emery County residents who voted for him and wished Funk luck.

Funk, 41, began his law enforcement career with the Emery County Sheriff's Office before being hired by the Utah Highway Patrol in 2006.
