Washington • Utah's two House Republicans will play key roles in the transition of power from Democrats to the GOP in the coming weeks.

Republican leaders have tapped Reps. Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz to join the 21-person Majority Transition Committee, following the GOP's massive Election Day gains.

"It's an honor to be one of the handful of people participating," Chaffetz said during a brief call from his family vacation in Disneyland. "There are minority rights that need to be instituted.."

As an example, he wants the GOP to make it easier for the minority party to amend bills on the floor.

Chaffetz also endorsed a plan pushed by Bishop to allow for longer work weeks in Washington in exchange for a full week in their home districts each month.
