The weekend's TV picks, from Tribune TV critic Scott D. Pierce:
A Utah crime headlines this week's edition of 48 Hours (Saturday, 9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) — the 1996 "thrill kill" shootings that left Zach Snarr dead and Yvette Rodier badly wounded.
In this "Live to Tell" edition of the show, Rodier, as well as members of Snarr's family, talk about the crime. It's just them — the interviewers are never seen.
And Rodier's calm manner makes the narrative makes your blood run cold as she recounts the crime and its aftermath.And it could hardly be a more chilling crime — two young people gunned down by 19-year-old Jorge Benvenuto simply because he wanted to watch people died.
This could easily have been an over-the-top exploitation of a heinous crime. But it's not — it's a rather restrained hour that's more effective because of that restraint.
