A civilian employee at Hill Air Force Base died early Tuesday in a motorcycle crash near the West Gate entrance.

The crash occurred about 5:40 a.m. and caused the entrance to close for several hours, base spokeswoman Barbara Fisher said.

The employee's name was not being released until the family is notified, Fisher said. The crash is under investigation.

Fisher said she didn't know what caused the crash, which involved the motorcycle and one other vehicle.

"My heart goes out to the families and friends of everyone involved in this morning's accident," said Col. Jennifer Hammerstedt, 75th Air Base Wing commander, in a statement.
