'The Book of Mormon' musical, written and directed by "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, in conjunction with Robert Lopez, who helped compose the award-winning musical "Avenue Q," opened officially last night on Broadway.

The creators were joined by celebrities and New York theater patrons for a red carpet entrance prior to the show at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Parker and Stone participated in a curtain call with the cast at its conclusion.

Reviewers have called the show "inventive and slick and subversive," and also "surprisingly sweet."
