Logan—Utah State basketball coach Stew Morrill announced Friday that Murray High School standout David Collette has officially signed with the Aggies. Collette, a 6-foot-8 forward, earned first-team all-state honors from the Salt Lake Tribune as a senior, when he averaged 22.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. Collette shot 60.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. He was named the Most Valuable Player in Region 2 by the coaches. "David has a bright future as a basketball player and we are delighted that he will be part of our program," said Morrill. "He is very athletic with good skills and, as he matures, we know he will continue our tradition of quality big men." Morrill continued: "David is an excellent student and high-character young man who has been taught all the right things at home. He is a wonderful addition to Utah State basketball." As a senior, Collette led Murray High to a 20-4 record and a region co-championship. He scored in double-figures in all 23 games. Collette scored a career-high 33 points against Cyprus during the regular season and Brighton in the state tournament. "I think David is the best Division I senior recruit in the state this year," said Murray coach Jason Workman. "He is a very versatile post player ... [who] he can shoot from the perimeter and runs the floor very well. David fits into the mold the type of post players Utah State has had in the past. I think he will really surprise a lot of people at the Division I level."
