Apparel retailer H&M is opening its first Utah store.

H&M, short for Hennes & Mauritz, plans to open this fall a 23,000 square foot store at Fashion Place mall in Murray.

Since launching its U.S. operations 10 years ago on New York's Fifth Avenue, H&M now has more than 210 locations nationwide and 2,200 stores worldwide.

The new store opening in the midst of Fashion Place operator General Growth Properties' second major redevelopment effort in recent years, adding 100,000 square feet of new retail space, including Utah's first Crate & Barrel home-furnishings store now under construction.

Two years ago, General Growth completed an overhaul of the interior of the main mall property and built a new 138,000-square-foot Nordstrom store on the mall's north side. Fashion Place also is anchored by Macy's, Sears and Dillard's.
