LDS historian honored

Brigham Young University and the LDS Church are honoring Mormon historian Richard Bushman on his 80th birthday Saturday, June 18, with an all-day symposium at the Springville Museum of Art. Several prominent Mormon scholars, including Terryl Givens of the University of Richmond in Virginia and Philip Barlow of Utah State University, will discuss LDS history and Bushman's influence on it. Bushman's wife, Claudia Bushman, will also address the meeting, and Bushman will offer his own thoughts, titled, "After the Golden Age." The symposium starts at 8 a.m. and ends with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Days of Yore

St. Thomas More Catholic Parish will hold its Days of Yore festival June 17-19 at 3015 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights. Admission is free to the three-day festival, which will include games, carnival rides, a 32-foot climbing wall, live entertainment, food and more. Hours are June 17 from 5 to 10 p.m.; June 18 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and June 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Garage sale

The Blessed Sacrament Council of Catholic Women is holding a garage sale fundraiser June 17 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic School gym at 1745 E. 9800 South, Sandy.

Yard sale

Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5335 S. Highland Drive, Holladay, will hold a benefit yard sale Saturday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Orem sermon

The Rev. George Lower will deliver a sermon, "Jesus appears again," on Sunday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Orem Community Church, United Church of Christ, 130 N. 400 East.

Father's Day in park

St. Matthew's Lutheran Church will hold a "Father's Day in the Park" worship service Sunday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Valley Regional Park, 5100 S. 2700 West, Taylorsville. A Dutch oven lunch will follow.

Refugee Day of Prayer

Lutheran Social Service of Utah will stage a World Refugee Day of Prayer on June 21 at noon at 4392 S. 900 East, East Millcreek.

'Bible vs. Book of Mormon'

First Baptist Church Outreach, 1144 West Columbia Lane, Provo, is scheduled to show a DVD, "The Bible vs. The Book of Mormon," on Tuesday, June 21, at 6 p.m.

Bell Ringer concert

The Wesley Bell Ringer handbell choir will perform June 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek. —
