New York • Enes Kanter was one table away, while Kyrie Irving and Brandon Knight commanded overflowing crowds. But the room belonged to Jimmer Fredette.

Surrounded by microphones, cameras and scribbling pens, the former Brigham Young guard continued to ride a wave of increasing popularity Wednesday at the Westin hotel in Times Square. And as the questions poured in, the ever-cool Fredette stuck to his normal routine.

Yes, he's excited.

Yes, he's just as curious as everyone else to learn which team will call his name Thursday night during the 2011 NBA Draft, which is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. MDT in Newark, N.J.

But, no, he's not feeling any pressure.

Fredette has waited for this moment since he was a child. Now, he can finally embrace the future.

"[The attention] is something that came on during the season this year," Fredette said. "It was something that was different for me, being from a smaller school, a smaller town. … But it's been great. I've had fun with it, and hopefully it continues to be in a positive way."

Fredette worked out for five teams — Indiana, New York, Sacramento, Phoenix, Utah — during the build-up to the draft, and he believes any of the five could select him Thursday. His best showing was for the Pacers (No. 15 overall pick), but Fredette continued to proclaim his openness toward playing for the Jazz (No. 12). Utah has interest in Fredette, but whether or not he ends up wearing a Jazz uniform largely depends upon what the organization decides to do with its No. 3 pick.

That decision is now out of Fredette's hands. He accomplished everything that he aimed for during the five-week lead-in to selection day, excelling in workouts while defying critics who initially pegged him as a late first-round selection.

Fredette will be in the green room Thursday, joining stars such as Irving, Kanter and Knight. The waiting is almost over.

He just needs to hear his name called out one more time. And he hopes "Jimmer Fredette" is announced while the lottery picks are still in play.

"It's looking that way but you never know," Fredette said. "I could slip. I could fall down to the late first round. I have no idea. We'll see."

Jimmer's possibilities

Sacramento (No. 7 overall pick), Charlotte (9), Milwaukee (10), Utah (12), Phoenix (13), Indiana (15) and New York (17) are possible landing spots for former Brigham Young guard Jimmer Fredette. The Kings would be a stretch at seven, but there is genuine interest. The Jazz, Suns and Pacers are the most likely choices.
