Elizabeth Smart spent her first day on her new job on Wednesday - a seven-minute segment that featured the Utahn being interviewed on "Good Morning America."

After a 2½-minute recap of her own kidnapping and the similarities to the Jaycee Dugard case, "GMA" host George Stephanopoulos interviewed Smart. He asked her what advice she would give to Dugard and how her mother helped with her recovery.

"Recovery is different for every individual," she said. "For me, my mom pointed out that I could live in the past that I could hold on to what this man did to me and how he hurt me. And I could feel sorry for myself, or I could choose to not give another minute of my life to this man and move forward follow my dreams and do everything I ever wanted to."

Smart was also asked about her foundation and joining ABC News as a contributor.

"I am thrilled to be working with ABC," she said. "I think there is a real power in partnering up, and I really believe that we can do some good together."
