Tuesday was a mad scramble in the NFL as players signed with teams now that the season officially is on. Utah had several players in the process of signing with teams according to coach Kyle Whittingham. Defensive back Justin Taplin-Ross is headed to Dallas, returner Shaky Smithson is going to Green Bay, running back Matt Asiata will get a chance with Minnesota, running back Eddie Wide was picked up by St. Louis and defensive lineman Sealver Siliga will get a chance to prove his worth with San Francisco and offensive lineman Zane Taylor is headed to the New York Jets. "It's a great opportunity for all the players," Whittingham said. Whittingham commented for the first time on Siliga's decision to turn pro early. The Utes were surprised when Siliga announced he was leaving after his junior year. Utah's coaches tried to talk him out of his decision, believing he could benefit from another year, but were unsuccessful. "It was a great disappointment for us but he talked with his family and thought it was the best decision for him," Whittingham said. "We would have loved to have had him back."
