Two men were taken to the hospital after a home invasion and fight apparently culminated in gunfire early Monday morning in West Valley City.
Public safety dispatchers say 911 calls reporting gunshots sent police rushing to a home at 4158 W. Paskay Drive (4400 South) at 3:19 a.m.
West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said officers arrived to find an 18-year-old man, suffering gunshot wounds, lying in the street. He allegedly had broken into the house and was confronted by the male homeowner.
During an ensuing struggle both men were shot. Vainuku said it was not immediately clear whether it was the intruder or the homeowner who was initially armed.
The alleged home invader was hospitalized in serious condition. The homeowner was in good condition.
Moments before the shooting, police had received a 911 call regarding a family fight involving the 18-year-old at a residence about a block away from the crime scene.
Vainuku confirmed that detectives were investigating whether the 18-year-old may have been under the influence of drugs.
