The Seattle band Candlebox never received the respect of other grunge-era rockers, such as Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. Perhaps it was because everyone remembered that they were among the first acts signed to Madonna's new record label.

No one apparently remembered that one of Candlebox's most popular songs, "Far Behind," was in part a tribute to the band's friend, the late Andrew Wood, who sang in the Seattle bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone. Adding to Candlebox's credibility is that original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen has been a member of the band.

But, at the time, Madonna was uncool, and anything tying a rock band to the pop starlet destroyed any indie credibility. Yet Mother Love Bone (which died and reformed with core members as Pearl Jam) was cool.

Candlebox is still standing, despite a six-year hiatus, and is headlining a show at The Depot with the ragin' Cajuns of the New Orleans-based party-rock band Cowboy Mouth as well as Miggs, an up-and-coming pop-rock band that will soon be known for much more than featuring Lindsay Lohan in one of their videos.

Kevin Martin of Candlebox and Don Miggs of Miggs spoke about how they'll cry for you, die for you, telling you how they feel inside. (Lyrics courtesy of Candlebox's other big hit, "You.")
