It's begun. The Utes came to Boise Wednesday and were blasted by a Boise State team, which itself seemingly had little going for it. Then the Broncos met Utah.
The Utes are a "Pac-12 team in conference affiliation only," wrote Idaho Statesman columnist Brian Murphy in this morning's paper.
The Utes were killed when the sharp-shooting Broncos aimed from the outside, particularly by Aussie freshman Anthony Drmic, who Utes coach Larry Krystkowiak said he watched at the U-18 world championships two years ago when he coached the U.S. team, got hot early.
"I just wished he was wearing our uniform and not theirs," Krystkowiak said. "He said, 'Well you didn't recruit me, and I said, 'Well, I wasn't hired yet.'"
As for the Utes, they maintained after the game that they are still coming along and, as I wrote in today's Tribune, that losing to Boise State was a learning experience.
