The fifth annual Hammers Inc. Arts Festival exhibit at the Rio Gallery is serving as somewhat of a tribute to the late Garrett Smith, the founder of the event who died in an avalanche accident last year.

Smith started the exhibit with the vision to inspire the community with art and the artists who stand behind it. Some of his works are on display.

The Rio Gallery is in the lobby of the old Rio Grande Depot at 455 W. 300 South in Salt Lake City. The event is free to the public. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibit will run until Jan. 6.

The festival's art is submitted through a call for entries process where a team of artists and creative professionals selected the artists who are featured this year.

Exhibited works include oil, mixed media, watercolor, graffiti and photography. Artists included include Adam Barker, Trent Call, Kandyce Groesbeck, Flossie Kehr, Chuck Landvatter, PJ Mannion, Sarah Mannion, Kristin Marine, Zachary Proctor and Mathew Turley.
