One of the higher-profile docs to screen at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival is the Peter Jackson-produced "West of Memphis," helmed by Amy Berg and about the so-called West Memphis Three, who were jailed for murder and recently freed.
What is further interesting, aside from the "Lord of the Rings" guy who may or may not show up for the festival, is that music for the film was written by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Cave has a long history of working in film, with one of his less notable contributions being a song for the second-to-last Harry Potter film.
As for the doc, Damien Echols, one of the three, produced the film with his wife Lorri Davis. The state of Arkansas struck a unique plea deal with the Three, freeing them but requiring them to plead guilty, despite their assertion of innocence. Eddie Vedder was one of the many activists who actively sought freedom for the Three, but I guess he didn't have any ukelele sogns in the hopper for the film.
