Here's your weekly roundup of what local city councils, school boards and other government entities are tackling during regularly scheduled meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and citizens are welcome to voice their opinions during designated times. If you do wish to speak at a particular meeting, you may need to sign up in advance.
Salt Lake City • Mayor Ralph Becker will deliver his annual State of the City address Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, Room 315, at City Hall, 451 S. State St. Also Tuesday, the City Council is scheduled to discuss new district boundaries based on the 2010 census at 3:30 p.m. in their work session. At 4:45 p.m., the council will have a follow-up briefing on new rules governing electronic billboards. And at 6 p.m., the council will discuss a proposed ordinance requiring dog breeders to obtain an annual license. The work session is in Room 326 at City Hall.
Murray • Mayor Dan Snarr will deliver his State of the City address; Tuesday, Jan. 17, 6:30 p.m., at Murray City Hall, 5025 S. State St.
Holladay • The city's state legislators for Holladay will hold a town hall meeting. Scheduled to attend are Sen. Patricia Jones and representatives Brian King, Patrice Arent, Carol Spackman Moss and Lynn Hemingway; Tuesday, Jan. 17, 6:30- 8:30 p.m., at Churchill Jr. High, 3450 E. Oakview Drive.
Canyons Board of Education • Scheduled to vote on school colors and a mascot for the new Corner Canyon High School, scheduled to open in Draper in 2013. Students in the area favor navy, blue and white for the colors and Cougars, Diamondbacks, Falcons or Raptors for the mascot, according to a survey; Tuesday, Jan. 17, 7:30 p.m., at 9150 S. 500 West, Sandy.
Sandy City Council • Discusses rescinding requirements for obtaining a hobby license for Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs; Tuesday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m., 10000 Centennial Parkway, Sandy.
Utah County Commission • Expected vote on whether to condemn property in an agricultural protection zone for the North Shore Aqueduct project; Tuesday, Jan., 17, 9 a.m., in Room 1400 of the Utah County Administration Building, 100 E. Center St.
Provo • The Municipal Council is poised to vote on whether to write off the $5.4 million that the city's energy fund loaned to the telecom debt service fund. The council also could vote on creating a process for setting the mayor's salary; Tuesday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m., at the Professional Development Center in the Provo School District Building, 280 W. 940 North.
Holladay City Council • Public hearing on a proposed Highland Drive Corridor Master Plan amendment to the Holladay General Plan; Thursday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m., at City Hall, 4580 S. 2300 East.
