Unified Police Department detectives were investigating a shooting in Kearns that left a man in critical condition early Thursday.

Officers were dispatched at 4:09 a.m. after several witnesses called 911 to report a man lying in the middle of the road near 4520 West and 4885 South. Arriving officers confirmed he had been shot at least once.

The victim, described as a 26-year-old man, was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said police had identified the victim but were not releasing his name pending further investigation.

"We're talking to his family. He's not from Kearns, so we're trying learn what brought him to the area," Hoyal said. "Other than that, we don't have much to go on right now."

The victim was conscious and breathing when found, but non communicative, police said.
