BYU has officially released its 2012 football schedule for its second season of independence. The schedule includes six home games and six road games and is highlighted by an Oct. 20 trip to Notre Dame, followed by an Oct. 27 game at Georgia Tech. The Cougars will play just one home game after Oct. 13, and will have a bye the first weekend in November. There were no surprises on Monday, with the only remaining unknowns being when the Cougars would play Idaho and Georgia Tech. They will play host to the Vandals on Nov. 10. Athletic director Tom Holmoe agreed with football coach Bronco Mendenhall's assessment last month that the 2013 schedule — yet to be released, in full — will be the most difficult in school history. Holmoe also said that after the 2012 season, BYU will play just one WAC school in 2013 and beyond, and that will be Utah State.
