For a 29-year-old Salt Lake City man, booze, spice and firearms were just the right recipe — to land him in Salt Lake County jail.

Salt Lake City police say officers were dispatched just before 7 p.m. Wednesday to investigate reported gunfire in an apartment complex near 1800 South and 1100 East. They learned that the suspect had just fired multiple rounds into the ground with his .22-caliber handgun.

He was not armed when officers approached him in his unit, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Police initially had him undergo a medical evaluation at a local hospital, then booked him into jail on suspicion of discharging a firearm within city limits; possessing a firearm while intoxicated; possession of spice; possession of drug paraphernalia; and public intoxication.
