A couple of would-be robbers found out they'd picked the wrong jewelry store Friday when the manager turned out to be armed.
The first suspect acted as if he were a customer when he walked into Kelly Jewelers, 7045 S. State St., about 6 p.m., said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
A few minutes later, a second man walked in, pulled out a handgun, and told the manager to get on the floor. He threw a roll of duct tape to the first man.
But before he could use it, the manager pulled out his own handgun.
When he saw the manager's gun, the armed robber ran, "leaving [the other] suspect behind holding the roll of duct tape," Hoyal said.
The 25-year-old from the Salt Lake City area was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery.
The armed suspect is described as a Hispanic man with short, almost buzz-cut, hair, a "shadow of a mustache" with a thin build, Hoyal said. He weighs about 145 to 160 pounds, was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carried a small silver handgun.
