An estimated 5,000 people work in 2 million square feet of office space around the City Creek development.
Most of that space was in place long before construction began on the best-known components of the massive project, including the City Creek Center shopping mall, three condominium buildings and a 110-unit apartment complex.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which owns City Creek's office buildings, has spent much of the past several years renovating and upgrading most of them.
On the north end of City Creek, two office buildings straddle Main Street on South Temple the Zions Bank Building on the southeast corner and Gateway Tower West on the southwest.
There's also the Eagle Gate office tower at 60 E. South Temple and the KeyBank Tower at 36 S. State St. The KeyBank tower had been at 50 S. Main Street, but the high-rise was imploded in August 2007 to make way for the City Creek Center shopping mall.
Instead of demolishing the old First Security Building at 79 S. Main Street, the LDS Church renovated the historic structure, renaming it the Deseret Building.
The newest addition to City Creek's collection of office buildings is a six-story structure on South Temple between State and Main streets, but church officials have released few details about it. Opening-day deals
The shopping center is hosting a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday near the Food Court. Most stores will have some type of grand opening sale, promotion or event.
