A power pole exploded Sunday afternoon in Roy, dropping smoldering power lines across Interstate 15 and briefly stopping traffic in both directions.

The incident caused a three-car accident that sent a Clearfield couple and their infant to McKay-Dee Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Rocky Mountain Power crews had the power lines removed and repaired by mid-afternoon.

Traffic was diverted onto side streets for one hour after the 12:30 p.m. closure of I-15 between 5600 South in Roy and the Interstate 84 junction in Ogden.
