Woods Cross High School is having its second annual Red-White softball game, a charity event to raise for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Utah, on May 9.
The event was inspired by Steven Drott, a teacher and former softball coach from the school who is suffering from multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. His health and weekly chemotherapy treatments forced him to step down, but Drott is still involved with the team.
Woods Cross will host Skyline, and the two schools will have blood cancer awareness events leading up to the game. The game itself will feature food as the teams raise money for the organization. Woods Cross and Skyline will give up their normal uniforms, instead donning custom jerseys representing red and white blood cells.
