The board of directors of Questar Corp., the parent company of the utility that supplies most Utahns with natural gas for their homes and businesses, has appointed Ronald Jibson to succeed Keith O. Rattie as its chairman.

Jibson's appointment will be effective July 1. He will continue to serve as president and CEO, positions he has held since July 2010.

Rattie, who joined Questar's top management in 2001 as its president and chief operating officer, was named its chairman in 2003. He will continue as a company director.

"Keith's leadership transformed us from a respected regional energy company into two top-tier energy companies nationally recognized for financial performance and operational excellence," Jibson said in a statement.

Since July 2010, Rattie has served as chairman of Questar and Denver-based QEP Resources, which was spun off from Questar. He remains QEP's non-executive chairman of its board of directors.

Questar spokesman Chad Jones said that after the company names a new president and CEO it has been standard practice for that person to also be named chairman after a one- to two-year transition period.

Jibson has held several Questar executive and management positions since starting with the company 32 years ago as a design engineer. He was an executive vice president of the corporation and president of its utility subsidiary, Questar Gas Co., which serves 1 million customers in Utah, southern Idaho and southwestern Wyoming.
