Salt Lake City police were looking for a samurai sword-wielding suspect in an altercation that left a man with a slashed leg.

Detective Carlie Wiechman said Thursday that the 20-year-old victim was treated at a local hospital following the assault about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of the Smith's grocery store at 910 E. 2100 South.

Investigators were told that the victim got into an altercation with another man shortly after exiting the store. The nature of the argument was unclear to police, but the two men were believed to be strangers.

The incident remained under investigation. "We're still working on leads to figure out the whole story here," Wiechman said.

Police did not immediately release a description of the assailant, who fled the scene on foot.
