Police say a Magna man was bound and tortured at length by his six roommates.

One of the suspects said he recently was approached on the street and threatened by multiple people with guns, and he believed his roommate, 41, was responsible for encouraging the threats, said Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal. In retaliation, the suspect and five other roommates — men and women ages 20 to 55 — held the seventh roommate at gunpoint at their home, near 2900 South and 8950 West, handcuffed him and bound his feet late Saturday night, Hoyal said. They stapled his lips shut, stapled his ears and chest, used a Dremel tool to cut him, hit him in the head with the butt end of a shotgun, beat him and "generally tortured him all night long," Hoyal said.

However, at about 4 a.m. the group "realized maybe he wasn't the one who was responsible" for the threats, Hoyal said. They released the victim, who fled to a sister's house. He was taken to a hospital; his roommates were booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault and obstruction of justice.
