This weekend, some 700 local filmmakers will test their skill — and their speed — in the 48 Hour Film Project.
The worldwide competition invites teams of filmmakers to write, shoot and edit a short movie in just 48 hours.
For Salt Lake City teams, that 48 hours begins Friday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., when the filmmakers learn what genre they are to work in. They also will learn common elements — a prop, character name and line of dialogue — that must appear somehow in every film. That gathering happens at the Megaplex 12 at The Gateway, 165 S. Rio Grande St., Salt Lake City.
Teams must turn in their films in digital form at the Megaplex 12 on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Any films turned in after 7:30 will be disqualified.
The films will screen in groups, at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 13 and 14, at the Megaplex 12. The best films will be honored at a screening at the Megaplex 12, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.
