Private prison operator Management & Training Corp. of Centerville has been awarded a $430 million, 10-year contract to operate three correctional facilities for the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the company said Thursday.

As part of the contract, MTC will operate the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility in Walnut Grove; the East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Meridian; and the Marshall County Correctional Facility in Holly Springs.

With the addition of the new contracts, MTC will operate 22 correctional facilities in Idaho, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Ohio and Mississippi.

In additions to its work in the correctional industry, MTC, which employs more than 9,500 people worldwide, also is the nation's largest operator of the Job Corps program.

The program provides career training for teen-agers and young adults ages 16 to 24 years old. MTC operates or is involved in 22 Job Corps centers, including one in Clearfield.
